The Custom Cruiser Wagon was an American icon of the late 1960s through the 1970s. The family car of choice, Oldsmobile's Custom Cruiser became the flagship of station wagons everywhere. Built initially on Oldsmobile's huge "C Platform," it was large, roomy, and great for long trips, its huge size motivated by a 455 cubic inch V-8 engine. After the gas crisis in the late 1970s though, Oldsmobile found it necessary to shrink the Custom Cruiser to the "B platform," the same general body type of the Chevy Caprice.
