The Plymouth Trailduster was introduced in 1974 and was sold until 1981. The vehicle was manufactured on the Chrysler AD truck automobile platform also used by the Dodge D-Series Trucks, Dodge Ram pickup truck, Dodge Ramcharger and Fargo Trucks sold outside the U.S. The Trailduster most similarly resembled the Dodge Ramcharger and shared most of its drive and power train components. However, the Ramcharger was available far longer than the Trailduster. Today, it would be considered a sport utility vehicle and was originally available in a two-door, four-wheel drive configuration. There were several available engines including a 5.2-liter V8, 5.9-liter V8, and a 7.2-liter V8 that were available in automatic transmission units, as well. Later models of the vehicle also came available with 3.7-liter I6 and 6.6-liter V8 engine configurations.
